Schools of Sanctuary - SOS

We all have a part to play in building a welcoming and inclusive society.

At  Christchurch Primary we  are committed to creating a culture of welcome and inclusion for refugees and people seeking asylum.

We aim to work with teachers, school staff, parents, governors and community groups to support people seeking sanctuary in the UK. Collaboratively we aim to raise awareness of the issues facing people in the asylum system, challenging misconceptions and build social cohesion.⁣

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for all, especially those seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety. A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

We have been making provision for  people seeking sanctuary for many many years and we feel ready now in 2023 to take part in the accreditation.

Schools of Sanctuary are for everyone: the school itself, pupils, parents, communities, local people and people seeking sanctuary. At Christchurch Primary School, we are proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please contact the SOS Lead teacher - Miss Herbert

2023 We are SO proud of our diversity in Christchurch. As a staff we want to learn about other cultures, beliefs and traditions around the world. We want to learn how other countries educate and inspire pupils in hope that we can learn from new friends.

Our staff have been given an amazing opportunity to visit schools outside of Wales during 2023.

It will be a few days of jam packed conferences, presentations, visiting schools and making resources

Funded by outside agencies.

Hopefully, teachers from other countries will visit Christchurch in 2023/2024.

Our Teddy mascot and dragon will travel with the teachers. Watch this space for updates, photos and staff adventures!
