Our Blue Planet Topic Launch Day was an exciting and inspiring start to our learning, giving pupils the opportunity to explore the wonders of our oceans and learn how we can protect our planet.
Pupils took part in engaging sessions with Dawn Thomas from Nature Days, where they explored a range of sea creatures that live in the oceans around our coastline. This hands-on experience helped pupils develop a deeper understanding of marine life close to home.
We were also fortunate to have a Marine Biologist visit the school, who talked to us about marine creatures and shared fascinating facts about their habitats and adaptations. Pupils were enthusiastic and asked many thoughtful questions.
The Wildlife Trust delivered an informative session about looking after our planet, explaining the important work they do to keep our environment healthy and how everyone can play a small part in protecting nature.
We also had a visit from John Meredith, who shared his artwork with us. He showed us how he uses recycled items to create different types of art. This helped us understand how reusing materials can help protect our planet.
Pupils loved listening to “Professor Jack”, who shared lots of interesting information about sharks, helping to challenge misconceptions and inspire curiosity about these incredible ocean animals.
We also welcomed the RNLI, who taught pupils important water safety messages and shared top tips to help keep themselves and others safe near water.
To link our learning to sustainability and the future, Morgan (Building Company) visited to discuss houses of the future, focusing on how homes can be designed to reduce energy use and support a more sustainable way of living.
Overall, our Blue Planet launch day was a fantastic success, providing pupils with memorable, real-life learning experiences that sparked curiosity, encouraged responsibility, and set the tone for an exciting topic ahead.
During this exciting Technocamp workshop, Year 3 and 4 pupils explored how technology and creativity can work together through hands-on activities using the micro:bit. The children were introduced to this small but powerful device and learned how it can be programmed to play sounds, create music, and respond to inputs such as buttons and movement. Through guided challenges, pupils discovered that coding is not just about screens—it can also be used to create real-world outcomes like sound and rhythm.
Our Year 3 and 4 pupils recently visited Swansea Minster (St Mary’s Church) to take part in The Experience Christmas project. This free, interactive programme offered the children a unique opportunity to explore the biblical Nativity story through a series of multi-sensory stations. It provided a rich spiritual and educational experience, welcoming children of all faiths and none to engage with the story and reflect on its meaning in their own way.
The activities encouraged curiosity, creativity, and understanding, making the visit both enjoyable and thought-provoking. A huge thank you to Rev Justin and Rachel Bunting for hosting us and creating such a memorable experience for our pupils. We all really enjoyed it!
